I am a community builder at heart and bring the lessons from organizing – trust, strategy, and storytelling – into into all that I do.
For seven years I developed and executed nationwide advocacy and community organizing campaigns with Free Press, mobilizing hundreds of thousands of people to support press freedom, media justice and community media. Combining offline community organizing with online mobilization I developed diverse coalitions and built grassroots power to help communities fight for the media they need. Experimenting with tactics across strategic communications, narrative change, and social media campaigns we sought to use the media to change the media. During this time Free Press stopped major media mergers, defended internet freedom, and won new legislation ushering in thousands of new nonprofit community radio stations.
I have organized and led large-scale civic events, small community trainings, digital workshops and design sprints. My work has been inspired by deep partnerships with unions, artists, civil rights organizers, environmental advocates, lawyers, and student organizers.
