Philanthropy and Donor Advising

For nearly a decade I have worked to develop innovative philanthropic programs focused on centering community, collaboration, and equity.

As the Senior Director of the Public Square Program at Democracy Fund I lead a team focused on expanding independent journalism, media justice, and efforts to combat misinformation and hate online. In this role I helped build and expand the national NewsMatch campaign which has raised more than $200M for nonprofit newsrooms over the last six years and I’ve supported creative local/national collaborations with foundations all across the country.

I regularly advise donors and foundations on strategy development and investments in democracy, technology and media.

Prior to Democracy Fund, I directed the journalism sustainability program at the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation which combined creative philanthropy experiments and deep capacity building support to ensure communities across New Jersey have access to the news and information they need. I was one of the founders of the Freedom of Press Foundation which was initially established to crowdfund independent accountability reporting. I have designed donor events for the Giving Pledge, given presentations at Exponent Philanthropy, and written for the Chronicle of Philanthropy, the Stanford Social Innovation Review, and the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy.
